My Philosophy

Being in therapy is just like the Myth of the Phoenix

In this ancient and powerful myth, the phoenix is a magnificent bird that is repeatedly regenerated or rebirthed. Its fabulous plumage has thousands of shades, from sparkling golds and scarlets to pool blues, emerald greens, and iridescent purples. It is glorious. It is mighty.

Like us, in order for it to fly far and fly free, the phoenix must metamorphose.

The phoenix builds a large nest knitted with twigs and aromatic cinnamon and myrrh. In therapy, we build a nest of safety and trust so that we can discover what’s kept our wings furled and frozen. This is where we do the courageous work of revealing and uncovering the issues that hold us back. This is the place where we can examine and explore without judgement, allowing humor and compassion to guide the way.

Then the phoenix, in a blaze of stunning glory, ignites its nest, and itself. After all your sorting, processing, epiphanies, “aha moments” and deep delving, you are ready to soar into your life, empowered and armed with all that you learned. You will have shed the struggles that suppress your true self, set fire to what does not serve you, and become the super hero/heroine of your life.

This is the power of therapy: it can set you free.
